A pilgrimage list gets you nowhere,
a bearing group gets you across town
The Seoul places that keep appearing in K-content sort into four bearing groups: northeast (58.2°), southeast (117.2°–148.3°), south (162.6°–167.8°) and southwest (215.8°–244.8°). You cannot cover them in a day, so take one group per half-day and start with whichever direction suits you today.
Which Seoul places keep appearing in K-content?
The usual mistake is building the list around a single show. The show ends, the list ages with it, and confirming which corner was really which scene is harder than it sounds. So this piece works from place types, and attaches measured bearings taken from the throne hall of Gyeongbokgung. The angles stay true whatever is airing.
The practical reason to care is walking. Sorted by distance from Gyeongbokgung, the spread runs from Bukchon at 0.6 km to Jamsil at 13.1 km — and the ones that are close in angle tend to be the ones you can chain on foot or with a single transfer.
- Hanok lanes and palace wall paths — Bukchon Hanok Village 0.6 km, Ikseon-dong 1.4 km.
- Downtown and the night view — Myeongdong 1.8 km, N Seoul Tower on Namsan 3.3 km.
- A converted factory district — Seongsu-dong 8.0 km, with Seoul Forest 6.6 km next door.
- University streets — Hongdae 5.4 km, Konkuk University Station 9.3 km.
- Han River bridges and parks — Banpo Hangang Park 7.9 km, Yeouido 7.9 km.
- Design and shopping blocks — DDP 3.2 km, Garosu-gil 7.7 km, Jamsil 13.1 km.
Where do they sit around the city?
Measured from Gyeongbokgung's throne hall, they fall into four groups. Read the table by bearing first, distance second.

Two things jump out. Hongdae 241.2° and Yeonnam-dong 244.8° are 3.6° apart, at 5.4 km and 5.1 km from the palace, which is why people walk from one straight into the other. Bukchon 58.2° and Yeonnam-dong 244.8°, by contrast, are on opposite sides of the compass.
Why group by direction at all?
This is not a matter of taste. It falls straight out of the angles. Bukchon to Yeonnam-dong is 186° of separation, meaning a crossing of central Seoul, and a crossing like that eats the part of the day you came for.
The southeast group, by comparison, runs from DDP at 117.2° to Seoul Forest at 126.4° — nine degrees, with Ikseon-dong at 120.1° in between. On a day like that, what fills the hours is time spent standing still rather than time in transit.
What does a half-day route look like?
Each group has its own clock, so the start time changes. Distances are from Gyeongbokgung.

Jamsil at 125.5° and Konkuk University at 118.0° sit inside the southeast group by angle, but at 13.1 km and 9.3 km they are the long ones. Give those two their own southeast half-day rather than tacking them onto Seongsu. Garosu-gil at 148.3° also belongs to the group but sits at its far edge, so it slots in neatly on the way over to the southern group.
Which group do I start with?
One rule decides the order. Put the group matching today's favourable direction first and push the rest back.
- A northeast dayStart at Bukchon Hanok Village, early, and carry straight on into the palaces.
- A southeast dayStart at Seongsu-dong and Seoul Forest. Wood into fire, so it reads as starting and spreading.
- A south dayStart at N Seoul Tower and Banpo Hangang Park. Fire, so this is the group that gets stronger after dark.
- A southwest dayStart at Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong. Earth, so you end up staying put in one lane for a long while.
That first group runs straight into a hanbok palace day. Bukchon at 58.2° is 0.6 km from Gyeongbokgung, so hanok lanes in the morning and a palace in the afternoon never once change your bearing.
How do you split it up in a group of people?
When everyone wants something different, split by bearing group rather than by day part. Giving one whole day to one group and the next day to another is far less walking than cutting a single day in half across two directions.

What does it mean to group K-content spots by direction?
It means sorting them by bearing from Gyeongbokgung: northeast 58.2°, southeast 117.2°–148.3°, south 162.6°–167.8°, southwest 215.8°–244.8°. Four groups, four half-days.
Can I do all of them in one day?
By the bearings, no. Bukchon at 58.2° and Yeonnam-dong at 244.8° are almost half a circle apart, so that day disappears into transit.

3.6° apart. Hongdae is 241.2° and 5.4 km out, Yeonnam-dong 244.8° and 5.1 km — same southwest group, which is why you can walk between them.
How should I decide the order?
Lead with the group that matches today's direction. Southeast means Seongsu and Seoul Forest, south means Namsan and Banpo, southwest means Hongdae and Yeonnam, northeast means Bukchon.
